Thomas George Sonnek, age 77, of Easton, MN, died Friday, September 4, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, MN with Father Andrew Beerman and Deacon Gene Paul officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from

4:00 – 7:00 PM at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Easton, MN.  Face masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed. Tom was born February 28, 1943 in Winnebago, MN, the son of Matthew and Mary (Schimek) Sonnek. Tom grew up on the family farm in Easton, MN. He was united in marriage to Mary Bushlack August 9, 1969 in New Richland, MN. Tom and Mary took over the family farm where they raised their 4 children.  He loved farming, polka dancing, playing cards, playing dominoes, and was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.  Despite his physical limitations due to a stroke in 2014, Tom still enjoyed a good laugh, coffee at Al’s, visiting with friends and family, telling jokes and ice cream from the Dairy Queen.  Tom loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Duane, Kenneth, Rollie and Patricia, SSND.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Mary Sonnek of Easton, MN; children: Lynn (Gregg) Hamel of Lakeville, MN, Matt (Anita) Sonnek of Waconia, MN, Brenda (Joe) Franczak of Champlin, MN, Cheryl (Jeremy) Beck of  Prior Lake, MN; grandchildren: Nathan and Madison Hamel, Jacob, Luke and Owen Sonnek, Nicole, Shannon and Will Franczak, and Hailey Beck; brother: Bill (Helen) Sonnek of Easton, MN; sisters: Mary Detke of Blue Earth, MN, Ida Arnold (John Ammerman) of Edina, MN, Kay (Wayne) Nacey of Mt. Airy, NC, Carmel (Pierre) Leblanc of Lampassas, TX, Eileen (Ben) Youngblood of San Antonio, TX; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
