Francis Edgar Cain Sr., age 84 years and 11 months, formerly of Wells, MN died Friday, November 6, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN, surrounded by his family via zoom.  A private memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 23, 2020, with Pastor Meg Sander officiating.  The service will be livestreamed on the Bruss-Heitner Facebook page.  The public is invited to the interment at Peace UCC Cemetery in Minnesota Lake, MN at 12:15 PM on Monday, November 23, 2020.

Francis Edgar was born December 11, 1935 in Hartley, IA, the son of Claude and Emma (Noethe) Cain Sr.  The family moved to Mapleton, MN, in March of 1950 when he was 15 years old.  Francis graduated from Mapleton High School in 1956.   On December 16, 1956 he married the love of his life Mavis Jean Jacobsen.  Francis worked at Reserve Mining Co. in Silver Bay, MN, where they lived for 5 years before moving to Two Harbors, MN.  Francis and Mavis lived in Two Harbors for ten years and had 6 children.  The family moved to Minnesota Lake in 1972 where Francis farmed and worked at Hiniker Tractor Cab Co. in Mankato. After Francis retired from farming in 1998, he and Mavis moved into town and started a pizza place, “Cain’s Pizza,” that everyone loved.  They ran that for 3 years and sold Capper and Gritt newspapers.  Francis also enjoyed working at the Waseca canning factory driving a tractor loader. In 1999 the couple became snowbirds for 13 years.  Their retirement home was in Yuma, AZ, where they met old and new friends.  Summer months would bring them back home to Wells.  Francis loved farming, fishing, deer hunting, snowmobiling, playing cards, and camping with his family.  In December 2018, Francis became a resident of Mapleton Community Home.  He lived there for almost 3 years and loved the caring staff.

Francis is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Mavis Cain of Wells, MN; children: Frederick (Lynette) Cain of Blomkest, MN, Cindy Hassing (Arnold Scott) of Dallas, TX, Candy (Scott) Berg of Wells, MN, JoAnne Cole of Wells, MN, Francis (Lisa) Cain Jr., of Wells, MN, Tom Cain of Wells, MN; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; siblings: Betty McCormack of Duluth, MN and Leroy (Marlene) Cain of Waseca, MN; many nieces, nephews and their families.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Claude (Hilda) Cain Jr., Delores (Martin) Schaneman, Marian (Carl) Struve, Ronald (Joyce) Cain, Raymond (Dorothy) Cain.
