Trappist Caskets

Trappist Caskets, started in 1999, is the work of the Trappist monks of The New Melleray Abbey in Peosta, IA. The monks follow the ancient monastic Rule of St. Benedict. Consistent with that rule, their vocation is expressed in a life of contemplative prayer, community liturgy, and manual labor. Simple living is one of the hallmarks of their life. Using lumber grown sustainably in their forest, they handcraft each beautiful casket and urn. Their skill and devotion shows through in every detail of their unique caskets. There are no other caskets on the market quite like theirs.

Below is an example of their premium walnut casket:

Trappist Caskets can be purchased wholesale at the time of need, and the casket will be delivered to the funeral home within days. There is also information on advance planning on their website.

Recently, Trappist Caskets generously donated a youth-size casket to a local family being served by our funeral home. The beautiful oak casket was personally delivered to Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home within 24 hours of the order being placed. The monks view building child-sized caskets as a corporal work of mercy. They also have a Child Fund, where donors may make contributions to assist in defraying the cost of materials and labor. If you would like more information on their Child Fund, or any of their merchandise, you may visit their website:

You can also tour the abbey and see firsthand the wonderful work they do!
