Tree of Memories Program 2015
Every year on a Saturday in December before Christmas, we hold our Tree of Memories Program. We invite all the families we have served between December 1st of the previous year to December 1st of the current year to attend. It's a short program that typically consists of a couple poems or readings and a message about handling grief and loss around the holidays. We also invite a local musician or musical group to perform one or two songs as part of the program (In 2015, Deacon Gene Paul delivered a beautiful message, and Sheila Rame played two Christmas songs on her harp). The front and center of the chapel is occupied by a real Christmas tree that the Nasinec family picks out and cuts down from Rustic Pines Tree Farm in Kiester, MN. It is decorated by all the staff at the funeral home in white lights and hand-crocheted angels. The angels are made throughout the year by Mary Oelerking, and each one is tagged with the name of someone who has died within the last year. At the conclusion of the program, each family is welcomed up to find their loved one's angel on the tree to take home with them. We also serve Christmas goodies with coffee, punch and hot cider. This year we worked with Kurt Schrader of Embrace Streaming to record our program so we could share it with anyone who was unable to attend.
